I stayed up until midnight making cookies for the boys and they helped me ring in my birthday. I then went to sleep and managed to sleep in until 7:30! Brilliant! However I was soooooo homesick when I woke up - it was the first birthday ever where I haven't been woken up with a "Happy Birthday serenade" by my mom & Berkley... But my mom called shortly after I woke up and Miriam was with her, saying that I would have a wonderful birthday party and would be dating a certain love interest in either one week or one month. When Leigh woke up we had breakfast - she had gluten free cereal and I had a birthday breakfast of champions: Sprinkles cinnamon sugar cupcake, raspberries, and greens powder mixed with water. Aside from the straight greens powder being pretty gag-inducing, it was a wonderful little breakfast! We then went on a birthday hike to the peak and came home to a full-blown movie set. The boys were filming a project for school - a Christmas Doritos commercial, and it was pretty wonderful having an excuse to listen to Christmas songs. I went to the grocery store and got the final groceries for the party (or so i thought), we started making the goat cheese dip and I made the caesar salad dressing. It was then time to leave for Bev Hills where we had to get my present from Leigh at Planet Blue, pick up a doggie cupcake from Sprinkles for Henry (or so we thought), and then go for my hair appointment. While driving I decided to check if there was a free cupcake password on Twitter. As I was looking i was like "i hope it's "birthday" and you can pick a cupcake of your choice if it's your birthday" and then i see that it's "70,000" and you can pick a cupcake of your choice! Such a coincidence! But not even. just plain old birthday luck. Colin also had said this morning that I was the luckiest girl ever because it had been pure doom and gloom for two days and was devastatingly sunny and hot just for me! Anyways, so Leigh and I got our choice cupcakes (Banana and Carrot) and ate them while getting my hair done. My first Frederic Fekkai Melrose experience was an absolute disaster. The old salon was SO much nicer, the guy who was filling in for Kelly didn't listen to a word I said "So we're just gonna do what kelly showed you on thursday - big victorias secret curls - just spray sections, curl them, and then put them in pin curls" ... after which he starts just curling the sections, no spray, no pincurls. "Arent you going to do the pin curls?" "i'll do them on the top" "Can you do the whole thing?" So he did... but he did it wrong. I was dying. I wanted to burst into tears. I tried to sneak a peak in the mirror (he had my chair turned sideways... always a bad sign) and Leigh was like "don't peak til it's done!" (thinking it wasn't finished) and then he was like "there you go!" and I almost cried. It was horrible, the top was flat, I could've done it better myself. But thankfully all wasn't lost... I still got the opening day gift bag of shampoo and conditioner and gift cards for stores near the salon including an $100 Vince card. Sick. So we hopped in the car, I had a mini meltdown and shed a couple tears since I had ZERO time to re-do my hair. We get home, the Christmas shoot is just wrapping up, the boys do a wonderful job of getting everything back to un-Christmas normal and help set up the tables and chairs and china lanterns in the side yard (the backyard grass was too soggy from the rain), Leigh and Lauren and I did amazing teamwork and got everything ready in time for the guests to arrive... an hour late. Thankfully they were an hour late!
Dinner was an absolute hit. People loooved my pasta! I was quite pleased with myself and my cooking abilities. After dinner we moved the candles and fleurs from the table to the backyard, and opened presents and ate cupcakes: black & white, vanilla milk chocolate & chocolate coconut. Soooo delicious. Oh, and the "Courtney & Christine's We Hate Queen's Chocolate Chip Cookie Bars" (which are always a hit) and black and white hershey kisses. I got such wonderful presents! It was so wonderful because i totally didnt expect anything since i was just adopting Leigh and Dave's friends as my own but everyone gave me such cute stuff! THANK YOU!!!! After eating seconds of pasta and cupcakes, guests started to make their way home. Leigh and I did a quick clean up and went to sleep.
Oh, I've also started receiving emails from people claiming to have seen an article on my paintings in The Key (Kappa Magazine). This is pretty hilarious and exciting and I wanna see it!
October 16
I'm wearing Jordan's purple rubber Nixon watch. It's soooo sick. Especially sick cause it matches my purple sneakers. (I can say words like sneakers now that i'm living in the States. I've always really liked the word, but Canadians don't use it). Ok so today. Woke up. Finished the kitchen clean up job. Leigh and I decided to start the Gwyneth Detox today so I had lemon water and greens powder for breakfast. Mmm mmm good. I then went to Myara's GST class (form of crazy pilates that i'm obsessed with), then met Matt at the Sports Club LA where he got me a sweet week pass. Spinning. Abs. Arms. Glutes. Stretching. I finally did middle splits again today and was very proud of myself. Came home, Leigh and I made ourselves our one solid food meal of the day (plain chicken and broccoli - no condiments). So horrible and bland. Watched Grey's Anatomy. I started reading "The Physick Book of Deliverance Dane" and fell asleep for 3 hours. Let's hope i'm finally cured of my insomnia! Woke up. Had very unsatisfying miso soup with Leigh for dinner, watched a Will Ferrell dinosaur movie with Leigh and Dave.
